Adverb som uttrykker et synspunkt eller en kommentar på engelsk

Det finnes noen adverb og adverbiale uttrykk som forteller oss om talerens sysnpunkt eller mening om en handling, eller som gir noen kommentar om handlingen. Disse adverb er forskjellige fra andre adverb, fordi de ikke forklarer hvordan en handling har foregått. Adverb som uttrykker et synspunkt eller en kommentar modifiserer hele leddsetninger heller enn enkle verb, adverb eller adjektiv. Det finnes ingen klart skille mellom adverb som uttrykker et synspunkt og de som utrykker en kommentar, bortsett fra setningsplassering. Mange adverb som kan brukes til å uttrykke et synspunkt kan også brukes til å uttrykke en kommentar. Men i noen tilfeller er et adverb mye mer vanlig enn det andre.

Setningsplassering

Adverb som uttrykker et synspunkt plasseres på starten av, eller iblant på slutten av setningen. De skilles vanligvis fra resten av setningen med et komma. Adverb som uttrykker en kommentar plasseres foran hovedverbet, med mindre hovedverbet er "to be", hvor det i så fall plasseres det enten foran eller etter verbet. I noen tilfeller, adverb som uttrykker en kommentar plassert foran hovedverbet vil også skilles fra resten av setningen med komma. I eksemplene nedenfor, vises adverb som uttrykker et synspunkt eller en kommentar i de riktige setningsplasseringene. Når en setningsplassering er uvanlig, oppstyltet, eller for formell for talespråk, markeres den med en asterisk.
